Dancing and Dementia

A 21-year study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, states that participants over the age of 75, who engaged in ballroom dancing at least 11 times a month, had a 63% lower risk of dementia! Neurologists are concluding that because dancing is not only a physical activity, but one that includes a certain amount of memorization of dance steps, the stimulation of the mind contributes to the lower risk factor. The heart-healthy benefits unique to ballroom dancing also provide aerobic exercise while engaging in a social activity, two things that are important to everyone’s health!
